Alberta – NDP’s Dishonest Tax

imageWhen I was a kid I was told we were entering into another ice age. Time magazine, Newsweek, Chicago Tribune, just to mention a few, hammered us on global cooling. As the years passed the scare seemed to fade away until the 1990’s when new computer models started telling us the facts are in and the earth is warming, not cooling. Man made CO2 was the biggest culprit and had to be controlled. Today I  just read that scientists are now considering the climate ‘Science’ evidence is pointing to global cooling. After being assured for years that the science for global warming was indisputable and CO2 was causing global warming, and humans were the culprits, here we are back to thinking about global cooling. Well, I’ve had enough of this man-made climate clap trap. It’s obvious that the science of climate change hasn’t been settled. I think man has very little to do with the changing climate and the climate change rhetoric is just a clever government scheme to introduce a carbon tax to transfer wealth.

It’s interesting to note humans contribute only  3.4% to the total atmospheric CO2 levels which stands at just 0.04% of imagethe total atmosphere. The fact is,  99% of the atmosphere is made up of nitrogen and oxygen. Man made CO2 only contributes approximately 0.0037% of the total atmospheric CO2  levels. This is such a small amount I find it highly unlikely and laughable that any scientist is suggesting this additional man-made CO2 absorbs enough heat to raise the planets temperature.  There is simply no way man contributes enough CO2 for it to absorb enough escaping heat to affect our planet whether it’s cooling or warming.  Climates models are simply out of sink with real observations. Earth’s climate is far too complex to make an accurate guess at how it works. The sun has far more effect on our planet than any CO2 man contributes.

If it wasn’t for the economic damage this CO2 fallacy is causing I wouldn’t really care what people believe. Unfortunately where I live in Alberta Canada, we have a left-wing environmental government (NDP) bringing in a carbon tax that will affect all business and industry. The carbon levy on man-made carbon ( approximate 0.0037% of the earths atmosphere) will be included in the price of all fuels that emit greenhouse gases when combusted. These include transportation and heating fuels such as diesel, gasoline, natural gas and propane. The Alberta carbon tax will suck $6 billion out of  taxpayer pocket and put into the governments pocket so they can divide it up to their pet projects. Ironically by the government’s own admission, their climate tax plan will not lead to significant greenhouse gas reductions if any. I can understand if we were going to be taxed because the government wants more money for infrastructure, but pretending they are saving the planet by reducing CO2 is just dishonest.

imageThe only saving grace Alberta might have is a change in government in 2019 to a conservative minded government. Since Alberta has one conservative (Wild Rose) and a progressive Conservative party splitting the vote allowing the socialist NDP to gain a majority , it’s anybody’s guess who will form the next government. In the mean time Albertans are going have to suffer in the name of climate change.

  1. I have railed against the wilful ignorance supporting these egregious assertions for decades ( I am a retired physics/math teacher). The bottom line is this: AGW is real but insignificant. When that statement is supported by facts and real science ( and it has) everything else goes away – no more vilification of CO2, the ” gas of life”, no more opposition to combustion of clean fossil fuels, no more opposition to oil and gas pipelines, no more taxes on carbon “pollution” ( as Climate Barbie and Justin are wont to say…it all goes away.
To your comments on global cooling: now that’s a scary prospect – most of Alnerta under an ice sheet 2 km thick. And it will most likely happwn again. Brrrr
